Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4th in 1972. Jill Scott was raised by her mother and grandmother. The only child she has. Scott was educated at Philadelphia High School for Girls. Following graduating, Scott enrolled into Temple University. She studied secondary education over there while working two jobs. Her dream was to be an English secondary school teacher. After three years of being teacher's assistant and studying her goal of becoming a high school English teacher was cut short. Her career began by singing live poetry and performing her own work. She eventually joined forces with Amir Quest Thompson, a member of The Roots. They were able to collaborate as well as co-writing You Got Me. At a Roots performance, she declared herself as an artist. Her subsequent collaborations included Eric Benet Will Smith Common. Additionally, she gained experience as an actor in The Canada tour of the Broadway musical production Rent. She was the first artist to be signed by Hidden Beach Recordings.
